The semester is truly underway and I've been busy as a bee - check out what's happening in my hive!
Time is ticking for me to work on assessments so I’ll spare you unneeded details… just subscribe to Gede’s Mates Newsletters if you haven’t done so already - it’ll be a fun surprise in your inbox!
South Perth Food Trucks
For my Graphic Design 1, I was assigned to create the branding for a food truck brand and was tasked to do observational research and interviews—so I did it with my friends! I remembered stumbling at South Perth StrEATs on a cycling detour and immediately invited Riley, Josh and Alek to come try it for themselves.
Riley (1/3 of the MacPack Podcast) and I ate a meatbox and a gyro from Greek Streats by George’s Kebabs; whilst, Alek and Josh ate some poutine from The Canuck Truck. The food was delicious, the vibes were immaculate and the sunset views were serene.
Go there between this Thursday and Sunday (the 6th of April) from 5pm to 8.30PM because it will be the final weekend for the summer period. Make sure to bring a $2 coin donation for parking as well!
Film Festival @ Gage Roads
Lil’ Photoshoot Beforehand 📸
Before I took Harry and Fynn out to the film festival, I was tasked to do a photography exercise for my Art Direction class where I had to come up with a character and made them pose in environments to portray a story. I had to ensure they all portrayed a story using different angles, such as high and low, and different types of shots, such as playing around with lights and silhouette shots.
I made Harry try look like a paranoid hacker man - using Elliot from Mr. Robot as reference. He didn’t exactly look the way I wanted to because he didn’t get the message of wearing black bottoms… c’mon mate!
I then made Fynn look like an urban, street kid. Using the characters of Justin Pierce (R.I.P) as references.
Surf Films!
After probably rushing the shoot cause we were so eager to go watch some surfing, we made our way to Gage Roads Fremantle to watch the Gage Roads Short Film Fest ‘25 hosted by Jack O’Grady - an action sports and lifestyle photographer.
The films were awesome and made me really want to pursue to learn how to surf. I particularly liked The Little Canoe featuring Natxo Gonzalez by Iñigo Grasset which documented the landscapes and lives of the Mentawai tribes people deep in Siberut’s jungle near Sumatara.
Pit Stop @ Jungle Bird
After basking over selves with surf films, I took the guys to a tropical oasis within the Fremantle streets they’ve - The Jungle Bird Rum Bar on High Street.
I got Harry the watermelon cocktail (you still owe me mate), Fynn’s still on his P’s so he didn’t have anything and I had the house pinot noir - it was refreshing to say the least. The staff were friendly with excellent service and the decor elevated the tiki rum bar atmosphere and transported me back to my tropical homeland - worth a visit if you ask me!
Jack’s Show @ Light Works
After a quick drop in at Astral Weeks for celebration for their Buttergoods and Miles Davis collaboration, I made my way to Light Works for the opening night of Jack Morellini’s ‘960 x 600’ show. It was interesting and made me wonder how these installations were put in place.
